Schools of Feng Shui: The Compass School

Eight Life Aspiration School (aka the Ba Gua School)

This particular branch of Compass Feng Shui was originally derived from the principles of "Luk Yum" (a magical Taoist sect) in the early 660AD. This special Taoist sect was more into spiritual cultivation, and thus had focused on intuition and incantations.

In the later Ching Dynasty, a minority group of Feng Shui practitioners (whom were also cultivated Taoists) merged some of the spiritual teachings of their sect with the principles of the Ba Gua. Since each direction of the Ba Gua relates to an element, they have successfully combined directional influences into assisting 8 different life aspirations of the human psyche.

This later developed into what we now call the Ba Gua School or (Ba Gua Pai). Their applications are very simple and effective. Although much of their teachings remain inaccessible today, their theories of the 8-Life aspirations have been perhaps the most  popular (do-it-yourself) Feng Shui technique in the world today.

Many of the books marketed in the West today consistently talk about this system in almost every perspective. The principles are simple:

Ba Gua and the Eight Different Sectors according their direction:

Refer to the section of  fundamentals, each of the eight directions is represented by an element.

To empower a sector relating to that specific life aspiration, you must empower that element relating to that sector.

For instance you want to boost your fame and recognition, you will empower the Fire (of the South) with Wood objects (because in the 5 Element theory, Wood produces Fire).

Another technique used by practitioners of this system to enhance a related sector of the home is to use Auspicious Feng Shui Symbology. For instance, you know that South represents Fame and Recognition, you may place the great God of War, Kuan Kung exuberantly in that sector to empower your fame and recognition similar to this divine being. In fact this is the most popular method used by Ba Gua Pai (School) advocates in  oriental countries today.
